Shopify & e-commerce
Shopify Plus on the surfaces most agencies don't touch, and WooCommerce when the brief calls for it. Custom apps on Shopify's modern Remix and React Router scaffold, Cart Transform Functions and Checkout UI Extensions for the work that themes and generic apps can't reach. Stripe, Wise and PayPal integrated, not just installed.
01 — What we build
Built for production, end to end.
Shopify Plus themes
Custom Shopify Plus themes built to brief, not bought templates flexed to fit. Plus takes PCI, hosting, fraud and multi-currency off the table so the build can focus on storefront and conversion.
WooCommerce builds
WooCommerce builds and customisation where WordPress and commerce belong together. The right fit when a client is committed to WordPress, wants content and commerce in one place, or wants to own the stack outright.
Bespoke Shopify apps
Custom apps on Shopify's current Remix and React Router scaffold with Polaris for the admin, the same stack Shopify itself recommends. App Proxy automation included for the work generic apps can't reach.
Functions & checkout extensions
Cart Transform Functions and Checkout UI Extensions that run at the checkout layer and stay auditable in Shopify's own logs. They hold even on direct checkout links that bypass theme-side discounts and validation.
Inventory & integrations
Warehouse, ERP, CRM and point-of-sale integrations with real-time stock sync, so products and stock stay accurate across every channel. A sale at the till is reflected online and the other way round.
Trade pricing & B2B
Trade-tier pricing solved at the checkout layer with Cart Transform Functions, so trade customers see and pay the right price end to end. Holds even on direct checkout links that bypass theme-side discounts.
Shopify Plus is the default for most UK e-commerce builds because the platform takes the hard problems off the table: PCI compliance, hosting, checkout optimisation, fraud, multi-currency. What Plus doesn't solve out of the box, trade pricing, complex variant logic, custom checkout flows, app-driven automation, is where the studio's work lives.
Shopify Plus by default, WooCommerce when it fits
Shopify Plus is our recommendation for most stores because it removes the boring-but-critical risks. It isn't the only option, though, and we don't pretend it is. Where a client is committed to WordPress, wants content and commerce in one place, or wants to own the stack outright, we build and customise WooCommerce too. SanData's thousand-plus course catalogue and booking run on WooCommerce. The platform follows the brief, not the other way round.
Where the work actually happens
Cart Transform Functions, Checkout UI Extensions, App Proxy automation and Shopify Functions are the patterns we reach for first because they execute at the checkout layer and stay auditable in Shopify's own logs. Theme-side discounts and validation get bypassed by direct checkout links and headless storefronts; the Functions and Extensions layer does not. Apps are built on Shopify's current Remix and React Router scaffold with Polaris for the admin, the same stack Shopify itself recommends.
Inventory and integrations
Most e-commerce pain isn't the storefront, it's the data behind it. We connect Shopify to the systems a real retailer runs on, warehouse management, ERPs, backend CRMs and point of sale, so products and stock stay accurate across every channel. For Power Vape Shop we built AI-assisted product import from a warehouse system and a CRM, then real-time stock sync across their physical shops and the online store over the Shopify API, so a sale at the till is reflected online and the other way round.
Trade pricing and B2B
B2B and trade tiers are where stock Shopify pricing runs out of road. We solve it at the checkout layer with Cart Transform Functions, so trade customers see and pay the right price end to end, even on direct checkout links that bypass theme-side discounts. For Calico Corners we shipped trade-tier pricing plus a Checkout UI Extension that reconciles guest orders against existing accounts, so customer history stays unified.
Migrations
WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Magento are still common in the UK SME base, and a good share of our e-commerce work is migration off one of them onto Shopify Plus. Migration day is judged entirely on what doesn't happen, no broken URLs, no lost rankings, no order data drift. Every migration ships with a verified 301 map, a staged content cutover, and a parallel-run period before DNS flips.
Lifecycle
Klaviyo is the default for email and SMS because the event model maps cleanly to Shopify's: abandoned cart, abandoned checkout, post-purchase, browse abandonment. ReCharge handles subscriptions where the catalogue suits it. Flows ship wired to real store events, not the "if email opened" guesswork that off-the-shelf templates rely on.
02 — The right stack
Stack-agnostic, by design.
We're stack-agnostic by design. We pick the right tool for the problem in front of us, then ship it to production properly, not whatever we happened to use last time.
How we select: We weigh the problem, your team's skills, the hiring market and the long-term maintenance cost. The goal is software you can run and grow without us.
BACKEND
Shopify Plus
Our default for most UK e-commerce builds because it removes the boring-but-critical risks: PCI compliance, hosting, checkout optimisation, fraud and multi-currency. Plus unlocks the Functions and Extensions surfaces where the studio's work lives.
Best for: Custom themes, trade pricing, checkout extensions, app-driven automation
BACKEND
WooCommerce
We reach for WooCommerce when WordPress and commerce belong in one place, or when a client wants to own the stack outright. SanData's thousand-plus course catalogue and booking run on it, so the platform follows the brief.
Best for: WordPress-native commerce, large catalogues, content-led stores
BACKEND
Stripe
Payments integrated, not just installed, so the gateway maps cleanly to the store's order and refund flows. Sits alongside Wise and PayPal where the brief calls for multiple rails.
Best for: Card payments, multi-rail checkout, reconciliation
FRONTEND
Next.js
The framework we reach for when a headless storefront earns its keep over a Shopify theme. Pairs with the Functions and Extensions layer so checkout logic stays server-side and auditable rather than client-side and bypassable.
Best for: Headless storefronts, custom front-ends, app dashboards
BACKEND
PHP
The runtime behind WordPress and WooCommerce, so customisation goes deeper than plugins allow. We use it for bespoke commerce logic, hooks and integrations where WordPress and the store share one stack.
Best for: WooCommerce customisation, WordPress hooks, server-side logic

06 — FAQ
Common questions.
Do you only build on Shopify?
No. Shopify Plus is our default recommendation, but we build and customise WooCommerce too when WordPress and commerce belong together.
Can you migrate my store from WooCommerce, Magento or BigCommerce?
Yes, migrations are routine. Each ships with a verified 301 map and a parallel-run period so you don't lose rankings or order data.
Can you connect Shopify to our warehouse, ERP or CRM?
Yes. We build integrations and real-time stock sync across point of sale, warehouse and online so inventory stays accurate on every channel.
Do you handle B2B and trade pricing?
Yes. We implement trade-tier pricing at the checkout layer with Cart Transform Functions, so it holds even on direct checkout links.
